Department of Educational Professions

K-12 Education Programs

The Educational Professions Department offers approved teacher education programs leading to eligibility for certification in K-12 Education (art, music, health and physical education), for grades kindergarten-12. Candidates major in academic content areas; they cannot major or minor in education. All candidates must complete application for each phase of the program.

The courses of study to be followed in academic content areas are established by individual departments. Program admission requirements and the program of study are listed in the catalog.

Program Exit Requirements

In addition to successful completion of the K-12 Education program, candidates must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Successful presentation of a portfolio that meets standards
  • Passing score on Praxis II as established by the state of Maryland.
