Secondary Education Programs

The Educational Professions Department offers approved teacher education programs leading to eligibility for certification in Secondary Education (biology, business education, chemistry, English, foreign languages - French and Spanish, earth science, mathematics, physics, social studies), for grades 7-12 as well as middle school depending on subject area. Candidates major in academic content areas; they cannot major or minor in education. All candidates must complete application for each phase of the program.

These checklists are listed below and may be printed and used as guides for the candidates. The courses of study to be followed in academic content areas are established by individual departments.

Program Exit Requirements

In addition to successful completion of the Secondary Education option, candidates must fulfill the following requirements:

• Successful presentation of a portfolio that meets standards
• Passing score on Praxis II as established by the state of Maryland.
