Martha Rowe Dolly earned her doctorate in Rhetoric and Linguistics at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and has taught composition and linguistics courses for over 25 years atFrostburg State University. She currently teaches mainly Introduction to English Linguistics, History of the English Language, and Second Language Acquisition theory as well as Social Sciences Advanced Composition.

From 2000-2003 she directed a community-based English as a Second Language program for non-native English speakers. She currently participates in Exploring ESL in Allegany County, a group of professionals from FSU and other area schools and agencies concerned about issues affecting non-native English speakers in the region. She has also been involved in promoting international education at FSU. Her research interests include meaning negotiation in second language acquisition.

Since 1998 she has also served as Faculty Advisor to United Campus Ministry and regularly participates, along with the chaplain, in ministry activities and retreats.
