An annual literary publication of the Allegany Arts Council, the Frostburg Center for Creative Writing, and the Allegany County Library System, the Backbone Mountain Review is looking for regional writers of all ages and skill levels. The journal will accept submissions from writers living in Allegany, Garrett, Washington and Frederick counties in Maryland, as well as from Fayette, Somerset, Bedford, Fulton, Franklin, Adams, Cambria, and Blair counties in Pennsylvania; Preston, Tucker, Grant, Hardy, Mineral, Hampshire, Morgan, and Berkeley counties in West Virginia; and Shenandoah and Frederick counties in Virginia. Bittersweet, the campus art and literary magazine, publishes poetry, short fiction, art and photography by Frostburg State University students. Submissions may be sent to Lane Center, Box 260. Do not send original copies of printed works, as these will not be returned. Artwork must have the student's name, address, and phone number attached to the back of the work so that the staff can return the submission. Students interested in editing the magazine register for English 100: Publication Practicum during the spring semester. Students can receive one or two credits for working on the magazine. #Sustain: Trending Topics in Sustainability, formerly known as E=(LG)2, is the only student-written and student-edited magazine in the country on sustainability, E=(LG)2 is a product of ENGL 402. Students in the course manage submissions and handle all production from layout to final printing. Submissions (non-fiction, journalism, essays, photography, scientific articles, artwork) are accepted from all Frostburg State University students. Students interested in working on the magazine should contact the magazine advisor and teacher of ENGL 402, Dr. Sydney Duncan, at 301/687-4225. Issues are online here.
Joining the Conversation is an annual magazine that publishes the best writing from the freshman composition classes at Frostburg State University. Students must be invited by their instructor to submit an essay to this publication. The magazine comes out at the beginning of the fall semester.
