Frostburg State University (FSU) and the
University of Maryland, College Park (UM) are collaborating to offer
innovative programs in electrical and mechanical engineering on the
FSU campus.
These programs offer students the unique
opportunity to attend a small university while receiving a degree from
the University of Maryland's Clark School of Engineering, one
of the fastest rising engineering schools in the United States.
The curriculum consists of approximately
125-126 total credit hours and is designed to be completed over four
years for students starting the curriculum at the calculus math level.
General Education and Lower-Level Engineering
Courses
During the first two years of both engineering programs, students complete
general education courses and lower-level engineering course requirements.
These courses are taught by faculty who are on-site at FSU.
Upper-Level Engineering Courses
During the third and fourth years of the program, students complete
a core of required engineering courses within their major, as well as
a flexible structure of electives. Some of these upper-level lecture
courses are delivered to FSU from UM over interactive video. The interactive
video system used for delivering courses features modern technology,
allowing for two-way voice and video communication between the instructor
and students.
Laboratory and Design Courses
All laboratory courses and design courses for both programs are taught
by highly-qualified engineering faculty residing in the Department of
Physics and Engineering at FSU.
Opportunities for Students Interested
in Other Engineering Disciplines
For students interested in engineering majors other than mechanical
and electrical engineering, FSU and University of Maryland offer a dual
degree engineering program. Under this program, students attend FSU
for approximately three years and UM for approximately two. Students
then receive two degrees (one in physics from FSU and a B.S. in the
engineering from University of Maryland). Engineering degrees are offered
by University of Maryland in a variety of disciplines, including aerospace
engineering, chemical engineering, civil engineering, materials engineering,
and fire protection engineering.
