Title:
BUSINESS EDUCATOR (The title must
not duplicate any existing FSU major programs)
Self-Statement (All self-statements
must briefly and clearly address how your planned course of study
will contribute your life plans)
Having
recently taken an early retirement after a 30-year career with
The Kelly-Springfield Tire Company, I find myself with an opportunity
to pursue a second career. I am partially prepared since I have
been planning for this day for a number of years. I graduated
from Allegany College in 1990 and have been working toward a B.S.
Degree since 1998 at Frostburg State University. I have had a
wonderful career, starting out with our company as a stenographer
and working my way up the ranks to my concluding two positions
of Manager of Operation/Analysis for the Manufacturing Division
and Executive Assistant to the President. What has been equally
interesting is that it was an education in itself working with
and learning from some of the very best management executives.
Now my goal is to obtain a BS Degree in Liberal Studies with a
focus in Business Education.
This
degree pulls together AC and FSU course work plus several areas
that have contributed toward a successful 30-year career
- Secretarial
experience and degree from Allegany College
-
Part-time teaching in Allegany College's Continuing Education
program
-
Management positions working with our three manufacturing plants:
Tire Technology, Quality Assurance, the CEO, and Goodyear
-
Community involvement through organizations like Big Brothers
Big Sisters and the American Cancer Society
Pursuing
a degree in Liberal Studies will afford me the opportunity to
finish my degree during the summer and possibly begin a Master's
Degree at Frostburg State University in the fall of 2003. My ultimate
goal is to teach or secure a position in another business situation.
The courses I am currently taking (January, 2002) during intersession
and those scheduled for spring have been selected not only to
meet requirements, but to complement my educational background
and make me a more well-rounded individual.
- Advanced
Composition (ENGL 310) Semester 022
- Argumentation
and Advocacy (CMST 302) 022
- Art
Appreciation (ART 100) 021
- Geography
of Maryland (GEOG 302) 022
- Geography
of North America (GEOG 301) 021
- History
of Maryland (HIST 345) 022
- Labor
Economics (ECON 301) 022
- Management
of Organizations (BUAD 351) 022
To
complete my degree, I will pursue the following courses during
summer, 2002 (based on availability): Business Writing (ENGL 330),
Capstone course (BUAD 499), and Microcomputer
Applications Business (BUAD 320).
