Leadership Studies Minor
Requirements

This is a 19 credit Minor consisting of 13 hours of Core Courses and 6 hours of Electives. Three credits of electives are chosen from each of the following categories: Leadership Values and Skills and Leadership Environments.

The four core courses introduce you to fundamental theory and skills involved in Leadership. An elective course, chosen from the Leadership Values and Skills category, is intended to help you make and communicate ethical decisions as a leader. Another elective course covers leadership in context and is chosen from the Leadership Environments category.

Human Communication


Course Description:

Fundamental theory and practice of human communication in dyadic, small-group and public situations. Offered every semester.

Leadership Studies:
Theory and Practice


Course Description:
Introduction to the study of leadership from both theoretical and practical perspectives. Offered Fall semesters.

LEAD 250

The Citizen Leader

Course Description:
An exploration of the opportunities for and the obstacles to becoming engaged in civic life, and social change. Discussion of responsibilities to self and others and multiple benefits that can be derived from being a proactive participant in community affairs. Includes didactic and experimental components. Offered Spring semesters.

Practicum in Leadership Studies

Course Description:

Experienced practicum in leadership studies. Students devote 115 hours to experiential aspect and assume a leadership task or project for an organization or group. Students meet in a seminar, 1 hour per week, to integrate previous course material and reflect on their own practicum experiences. PREREQUISITES: Completion of all other aspects of Leadership Studies Minor (CMST 102, LEAD 201, LEAD 250) and 6 elective credits from approved list.) Offered variable semesters.
