The Price Collection
William P Price 1922-2002

A native of Cumberland, Maryland, Mr. Price served during World War II. Following the war, he returned to Cumberland and worked for the local newspaper in the composing room. This left his days free to pursue his true avocation – railroad photography.

His photographs and 8mm movie film document nearly every mile of
railroad track in Western Maryland and the adjacent areas of
Pennsylvania and West Virginia, capturing a critical moment in
railroad history – the peak period of the steam locomotive and the transition to diesel power.

Mr. Price donated his extensive collection of black and white photos and negatives (with copyright privileges) to Frostburg State University in 1999.
