The Lewis J. Ort Library participates in the Federal

our online catalog. The GOVDOC location code signifies that the
item is located in the Government DocumentsArea on Floor 2 or
is an online government publication (for online publications simply click

Federal Branches and Agencies
USA.Gov is a
search engine that provides access to each branch of the federal
government (Executive, Legislative, Judicial). It also contains
an agency
index that lists all major agencies in the Federal Government.

International Resources
The Library maintains a large collection of CIA
country maps. To access them, do a keyword search with your country's
name and the word "map" (e.g. India map) on catalogUSMAI
and look for the GOVDOC MAP location code. These maps are housed
in file cabinets toward the back of the Government Documents area.

Foreign Governments and Country Information
Background
Notes. State Department database that provides basic country
information.
CIA
World Factbook. Categories covered include Geography, People,
Government, Economy, Communications, Transportation, Military
and Transitional Issues. This resource is also available in print
in Reference G122.U56A. The Library maintains a 10-year back file
in the government documents dept.
Library
of Congress Country Studies. Sponsored by the U.S. Department
of Army, focuses primarily on lesser known areas of the world
or regions in which U.S. forces might be deployed, the series
is not all-inclusive. At present, 101 countries and regions are
covered.
InfoPlease
Countries of the World. Each Country Profile provides information
on: geography, maps, flag, history, current ruler, area population,
capital, largest cities, languages, ethnicity/race, religion,
literacy rate, economy,and government.
Foreign
Government Resources on the Web. Resource page maintained
by the University of MI Documents Center. Arranged
geographically and by subject.
Chiefs
of State and Cabinet Members of Foreign Governments. A listing
of the current chief of staff (president, prime minister, etc.),
cabinet members, and other important officials from every country
in the world.
World
Political Leaders, 1945-2006. A listing of current and historical
leaders from every nation in the world. Pictures are available
for some.
Constitutions
of the World. A listing of the text of constitutions of foreign
governments that are available online in English. Maintained by
FindLaw.com.
Business/ Economic Information
Country
Reports on Economic Policy and Trade Practices. Chronological
index of reports providing a single, comparative analysis of the
economic policies and trade practices of countries with which
the U.S. has significant economic or trade relationships.
Global
Edge. Portal for international business sites. Includes countries,
statistical sources, world stock exchanges, trade laws, company
directories, travel info, and more.Maintained by the MI

World's Women 2000. Published by the UN
Statistics Division, profiles the world's women. Includes population,
health, education, work, and human rights.
