Below are recommended web sites for government statistical information. The Library also has a wealth of Census data in summary format from 1930-1990 (the 2000 census is available online.) See a librarian for assistance.

There are also population schedules for Maryland from 1790-1930.

American Factfinder
. Census data from a variety of sources.

Bureau of Justice Statistics. Information on crime, criminal offenders, victims of crime, etc.

County and City Data Book, 1988, 1994. Create custom printouts and data subsets.

Economic Indicators, US Congress, 1995-Present. Published for the Joint Economic Comm.

FedStats. Statistics from over 70 Federal Agencies.

National Center for Educational Statistics. Data related to the US and other nations.

National Center for Health Statistics. Data on infant and child health, diseases, births,etc.

Statistical Abstract of the United States. (Print version REF HA202.S85) Data on the US.

Statistical Resources on the Web. Stats arranged by subject. Site maintained by Univ. of MI

Trade and Economic Analysis. US trade statistics, and state and metropolitan export data

STAT_USA. The Department of Commerce site, contains current and historical trade-related information, including international market research, trade opportunities, country analysis, and the National Trade Databank (NTDB). Also includes current and historical economic and financial information and economic data. Contact a reference librarian for information.

Maryland Statistics

Maryland State Data Center. Economic and demographic statistics and projections for MD.

Maryland Vital Statistics. Birth, death, cause of death, marriage, and more statistics for all counties in MD.


Maps


Geographical Resources and Maps. Links to quality resources for national and international information; and maps and geographical information systems. Includes links to interactive map resources, distance finders, Landform Atlas of the World, Demographic Data Viewer, and others.

Mapquest. Driving directions for US destinations, maps of the US, maps of other countries, etc.

Tiger Mapping Service. Allows generation of maps displaying United States census geography, and selected demographic data.

FSU Geography Subject Guide. Guide to the best geography resources available at the FSU library.

Print Resources from the Library Map Collection (Floor 2)
- Large collection of 7.5' (1:24,000) USGS quadrangle maps including all quadrangles for MD, PA, WV, VA, NY and others.

- Smaller collection of 1:50,000. 1:100,000, and 1:250,000 USGS maps for the Mid Atlantic region.

- Large collection of international maps, folded state road maps, and city street maps.

- National Geographic Maps.

Finding Maps
- Most maps do circulate. Tubes are supplied at the circulation desk for circulating maps.

- For USGS maps, use the state map indexes on Floor 2 or search the Geographic Names Information System and locate the area you are interested in then check the Map Case Label Key (white binder located on top of the map cases) to find which case your map is located in.

- Use catalogUSMAI, our online catalog, and do a keyword search on the geographic area you are interested in. Look for MAP tag in catalog record. Write down the call number.

- Use the Map Case Label Key (white binder located on top of map cases) to find the map's location. This key includes a listing of the all cases and file cabinets that house maps.

- If you cannot find what you are looking for, please see a Reference Librarian for help.

- You can also order USGS Maryland topographic maps from the Maryland Geologic Survey. Maps are $5 plus $2 for shipping.
