4/22/08 – Environmental Phograph Finalists on Display
Come and vote for your favorite Environmental Photograph! The 5th Annual Environmental Photography Contest "Finalists" are on display in the Ort Library, near the entrance. You can vote for the "People's Choice Award" which will be revealed at the awards ceremony. Over $500 in cash, along with gifts and certificates will be presented to the contest winners.  Everyone is invited to attend the award ceremony, Thursday, April 24 at 5:00pm in the Compton Science Center Atrium. The contest is sponsored by the FSU Environmental Planning & Land Management Institute.


4/21/08 –National Library Week Contest Winner
Congratulations to Jamal Gray, winner of the Jelly Bean contest held in the Ort Library  during National Library Week April 13-19). Jamal correctly guessed that there were 721 jelly beans in the jar.

4/4/08 –Celebrate National Library Week at the Ort Library

April 13-19 is National Library Week, an annual celebration of our nation's libraries. This year's theme is "Join the Circle of Knowledge @ Your Library." In honor of this 50 year old tradition, cookies will be served in the Ort library on Wednesday, April 16th. Students, be sure to stop by the Circulation desk and enter the jelly bean contest. Guess the correct number of beans in the jar and win a flash drive! Come and celebrate with us; we look forward to seeing you!


4/3/08 –New Databases about the Environment in Research Port

In support of the FSU Green Campus Initiative and environmental education, the Ort Library proudly introduces two new research databases, Environment Complete™ and GreenFILE.

Environment Complete™ offers deep coverage with lots of full-text scholarly research in applicable areas of agriculture, ecosystem ecology, energy, natural resources, marine and freshwater science, geography, pollution and waste management, environmental technology, environmental law, public policy, social impacts, urban planning, and more!

GreenFILE is a freely accessible research database from EBSCO Information Services, focusing on the relationship between human beings and the environment. It includes well-researched information on topics ranging from global warming to recycling to alternate fuel sources and beyond. Comprised of scholarly and general interest titles, as well as government documents and reports, GreenFILE offers a unique, open-access perspective on the positive and negative ways humans affect ecology.

Both Environment Complete™ and GreenFILE share the user-friendly EBSCO database screens in Research Port. Check out these informative resources and learn more about the issues facing our planet.

3/24/08 –Library Virtual Tour Released

Check out the new Lewis J. Ort Library Virtual Tour! Highlighting our four public floors, the tour acquaints you with library services and helps you find your way around the Library more easily through pictures and text.
