Internship Information

We, in the Department of Mass Communication, believe that real-world, professional experience is a vital asset to any Mass Communication student's resume. That's why we require all our majors to participate in either a practicum or an internship. Before we continue, it's important for you to know that there is NO practical difference between a practicum and an internship. The difference is only in the number of hours of credit you would receive.

MCOM 494 (Practicum): 3 hours of credit, requires 135 hours of work

MCOM 492 (Project): 3 hours of credit

MCOM 495 (Internship): 6 or 12 hours of credit (taken with MCOM 492) for a total of 9 or 15 hours of credit; 9 hour internship requires 240 hours of work; 15 hour internship requires 480 hours of work

Whether you wish to undertake a practicum or an internship, you first need to find a place to work. For a list of businesses and organizations that have hosted MCOM internship/practicum students in the past, please click HERE.(PDF)

Now for the paperwork. Below is the link to the packet containing all the necessary paperwork for your practicum or internship experienc. This paperwork must be completed before you can be registered for your internship/practicum.
