The Department houses both the mass communication major and the mass communication minor. Both programs are designed to help students gain an understanding of today's media. There is no more influential industry in the world than the media. Whether we like it or not today's media shapes our lives. Our programs are designed to help students understand the processes and effects of the media in hopes of preparing graduates to become media industry leaders AND critical consumers of media.
The Department of Mass Communication attempts to get students involved in the creation and study of media messages from the first MCOM class to the last. We have great co-curricular and internship programs that afford students the opportunity to get tremendous hands-on experience.
The Department has grown considerably over the years and more growth is expected as we move into our new, state-of-the-art facilities and begin teaching the Fall 2014 semester. FSU's Center for Communication and Information Technology (CCIT), pictured below, is open and ready for classes to begin Fall 2014. The new building will house the mass communication program as well as several other academic and support programs. The new facilities and dedicated MCOM space will help us serve students even more effectively.
