Tenor Jonathan Hodel is the head of Opera Theatre and teaches all opera related courses, including Diction for Singers, Vocal Pedagogy, Opera History and Opera Workshop. He received his Bachelor of Music Education degree from Valparaiso University, his Master of Arts in Choral Conducting from the University of Iowa, his Master of Music in Vocal Performance and his Doctorate of Music in Vocal Performance and Vocal Pedagogy from Indiana University.

Dr. Hodel has appeared in opera, concert and oratorio in the United States and in Europe. With over thirty-five roles in his repertoire, he has been seen in such diverse roles as Rodolfo in Puccini's La Bohème, Rinnucio in Puccini's Gianni Schicchi, Pinkerton in Puccini's Madama Butterfly, Radames in Verdi's Aïda, Manrico in Verdi's Il Trovatore, Fenton in Verdi's Falstaff, The Duke of Mantua in Verdi's Rigoletto, Alfredo in Verdi's La Traviata, Edoardo in Verdi's Un Giorno di Regno, Pollione in Bellini's Norma, Nemorino in Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore, Don Jose in Bizet's Carmen, the title role in Gounod's Faust, Des Grieux in Massenet's Manon, Lensky in Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin, The Prince in The Love for Three Oranges, Judge Danforth in Robert Ward's The Crucible, and Count Almaviva in the third production of Corgliano's masterpiece, The Ghosts of Versailles.

Dr. Hodel has appeared the Pittsburg Opera, Opera San Jose, Asheville Lyric Opera, Bayshore Lyric Opera, St. Petersburg Opera, the Heschise-Stattstheater (Wiesbaden, Germany), the Compagnia d'opera italiana di Milano international tour, the Pine Mountain Music Festival and the Breckenridge Music Festival. He was an apprentice artist with Central City Opera, Opera Theater of Saint Louis and the John E. Connelly Pittsburgh Opera Center at Duquesne, where he performed the role of Rinuccio in the world premier of Michael Ching's, Buoso's Ghost.

As soloist, Dr. Hodel has performed Mendelssohn's Lobgesang, Beethoven's Ninth Symphony and Choral Fantasy, Berlioz's Te Deum, Britten's St. Nicolas, Handel's Messiah, Rachmaninov's The Bells and Verdi's Requiem. Lieder concerts have included Schubert's Die Schöne Müllerin, Schumann's Dichterliebe, Beethoven's An die ferne Geliebte and Liszt's Tre Sonetti di Petrarca.

Dr. Hodel is also an active conductor and is currently the Associate Music Director of Asheville Lyric Opera in Asheville, North Carolina. Dr. Hodel has appeared with Asheville Lyric Opera, Opera San Jose and Indiana University School of Music, conducting such diverse repertoire as Verdi's La Traviata, Haydn's L'isola Disabitata, Mozart's Don Giovianni, Offenbach's Tales of Hoffmann, Strauss's Die Fledermaus and Carlisle Floyde's Susannah. Between 1999 and 2003, he was also the assistant director of San Jose State University's Opera Workshop program. Dr. Hodel studied conducting under Imre Pallo at Indiana University and William Hatcher at The University of Iowa.
