Audition & Admission
Thank you for your interest in our department and programs. Below you will find information regarding admission to FSU as well as to the Music department.
You may find the Financial Aid web site useful as well.
Music Program Admission
In addition to being officially accepted by the University, there are two additional steps you must complete to be accepted as a Music Major by the Music Department at FSU:
an audition & a placement exam
See details below.
Entering freshmen and transfer students are required to pass an audition in their chosen performing area before being accepted as majors to the Department of Music.
Need an accompanist? Should it prove impossible for a student to attend the audition with his/her own accompanist, that student is advised to contact Music Department Chair Dr. Mark Gallagher (contact information below), who will make appropriate arrangements with the staff accompanist.
Please contact us with questions.
A brief Music Theory placement exam will be administered prior to the audition.
Based on proficiency, students may be granted conditional status while pursuing their music major curriculum and may be given full music major standing at a later date.
To receive further information regarding audition requirements, to request an application, or to arrange an audition, please contact:
