Scholarship Audition FAQs
We are delighted
by your interest in Frostburg!
Our scholarship auditions will be held on Thursday, March 11th,
with a snow date of March 25th (we will follow University closures,
301-687-4000). In the event of a delayed opening, auditions will still
take place.
SCHOLARSHIP AUDITION
APPLICATION GUIDELINES
Music Department Scholarships are awarded exclusively
to declared music majors. Students who are awarded music scholarships
then subsequently change their major should be aware that their scholarship
will be revoked.
- If you plan to audition on March 11th , please email
Dr. Dixon (jdixon@frostburg.edu)
the following information as soon as possible: Your name, address, home
and cell phone numbers, email address, and primary instrument/voice.
- While you may audition for the music program at any
time, you will only be considered for a music scholarship on March 11.
IT IS IMPERATIVE that you apply to and are accepted by FSU prior to
this date. We can only offer you a music scholarship if you have been
accepted to FSU.
- The music scholarship application can be found online
at: http://www.frostburg.edu/dept/music/scholarships.htm.
Please submit all materials (including transcripts and three letters of
recommendation) by March 4th to ensure that you receive
an audition time.
- We will schedule your audition time only after we
receive your completed application: application form, statement of accomplishments/goals,
two recommendation letters, and transcript.
AUDITION REPERTOIRE
-
We recommend two contrasting pieces for your audition
(not more than 10 minutes total). If your selections are longer than
10 minutes, please select a portion that best displays your abilities.
If we are not able to hear your audition repertoire in its entirety,
this is not reflective of your ability; it is only because of time
constraints
-
Memorization of audition repertoire is encouraged,
but not required.
-
Percussionists should prepare three selections: snare,
timpani and mallets.
-
Accompanists will be provided for vocal auditions.
Accompanists for instrumental auditions are optional. If you require
an accompanist, please send a copy of your music to the Chair of the
department along with your application materials.
-
Guitar majors who wish to perform electric guitar
selections will be provided with a Fender guitar amp. Please bring
your own 1/4-inch jack adaptor cord.
