AUDITIONS - Concert Jazz Ensemble and Combos


Fall 2013 Auditions Schedule
Auditions for large jazz ensemble and small combos are open to ANY FSU student, regardless of major.
 
SCHEDULE
  • Wednesday, September 4th:  Saxophones, Trumpets, and Trombones - 12:00-12:50pm, Performing Arts Center Room 213.
  • Friday, September 6th:  Rhythm Section, 12:00-12:50pm, Performing Arts Center Room 213.

AUDITION DETAILS AND DOWNLOADS
 
Download the appropriate audition packet for your instrument from the folders below.  In addition to the two charts Abide and Langeitude also prepare an improvised solo with BluesFALL13.  Specific excerpts from each chart are required (see below.) Recordings are included in each folder for your reference.  A scale syllabus is also included with examples of appropriate scales to practice.

  • Saxophones: Abide - mm. 200-216; Langeitude - mm. 63-85
  • Trumpets: Abide - mm. 176-193 (2nd x with pickup in 1st ending); Langeitude - mm. 29-46
  • Trombones: Abide - mm. 176-193 (take 2nd ending & play all notes); Langeitude - mm. 46-62
  • Guitar: Abide - mm. 200-211; Langeitude - 149-204 (comp. solo changes)
  • Piano: Abide - mm. 1-16; Langeitude - 149-204 (comp. solo changes)

Improvisation following the changes of BluesFALL13 is not required but highly encouraged for section positions.  However improvisation IS mandatory if auditioning for the following positions:
