What is it?
This certificate program is for those students who are interested in a unique opportunity to gain knowledge and skills as a leader/peer mentor.
This program is by invitation only for our best psychology students. Students need to meet minimum GPA requirements and have positive recommendations from psychology faculty members to qualify.
Students will receive an invitation letter from the program coordinator prior to fall or spring scheduling and have an opportunity to gain additional information through meetings.

Lab Assistant for General Psychology.
Departmental Intern, with research opportunities.
Supplemental Instructor (SI), including additional training from the national SI program.
You will receive excellent training for possible future assistantships at the graduate school level.
PSYC 394 prepares you for a teaching assistantship.
The internship experience prepares you for a research assistantship.
The Leadership Certificate helps get you closer to earning a Minor in Leadership Studies.
You will improve your understanding of psychology that may help you on the GRE Psychology Subject exam.
How do you achieve it?
Requirements for Leadership in Psychology Certificate
1. Enroll at Frostburg State University as a degree-seeking student.
2. Complete a minimum of 15 credit hours distributed as follows:
a. Prerequisite Course (3 hours)
PSYC 150/151 General Psychology (GEP Group D)
b. Psychology Courses Related to Leadership (3 hours)
Select one of the following:
PSYC 385 Group Processes
PSYC 314 Theories of Personality
PSYC 318 Social Psychology
c. PSYC 394 Learning Mentor in Psychology Field Experience (3 hours)
You must apply for approval and receive permission from the department to enroll; thus, only those students who are approved to enroll in PSYC 394 can complete this certificate. Applications and a list of requirements for enrollment are available in the Department of Psychology. A grade of C or better is required to earn certificate.
d. Electives (6 hours)
Select any course(s) listed under b. above that were not used to meet the Group Leadership requirement and/or enroll in PSYC 394 for an additional 3 to 6 credits (reapplication and departmental approval are required).
