The Psychology Department offers the following scholarships/awards:
1. Allegany County Mental Health Association
Scholarship
The Mental Health Association of Allegany County has provided an
endowed scholarship for an Allegany County resident
preparing for a career in the mental health area.
The award is $300.00 ($150/semester). The award
is for an outstanding student with a financial need. Students
usually submit papers or projects they have completed
in support of their application. The Psychology
Department determines financial need. Applications
are available right after Spring Break of each year
and the deadline for submission is generally near May 1. Applications
may be picked up from the Psychology Department office.
2. Psychology Department Honors
Each year, a student will be selected to receive department honors
for academic excellence. The selection is based
on GPA and demonstration of scholarly behavior
by a student. The recipient is honored at a university-wide awards
ceremony.
3. John Allison Award
The John Allison Award is given each year to the student who
demonstrates academic excellence and outstanding service.
The recipient is honored at a department-wide
awards ceremony and his or her name is added to a plaque that
is displayed in the department.
4. Psych Club Student Scholarship
Each year the Psych Club awards a student money to be put towards the
purchase of text books for the following year. Eligible students must
be Junior-status or younger and a member of Psych
