Certificate Programs and Options for the Undergraduate Psychology Major


CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS

The Psychology Department has two certificate programs to enhance the psychology degree.  Once completed, these certificates will be included in the student's transcript.

  • Addictions Counselor Preparation - Professional Certification Program
    This preparation is designed for students interested in the addictions counseling field. Certification is regulated by the Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors for Maryland. 

    Two levels of certification can be sought by students with undergraduate degrees. They are:

    • Certified Supervised Counselor:  Alcohol & Drug (CSC-AD)
      -for associate degree graduates
    • Certified Associate Counselor:  Alcohol & Drug (CAC-AD)
      -for baccalaureate degree graduates

  • Child and Family Psychology Certificate Program
    This certificate program is for students who want an in-depth exposure to child/adolescent psychological development and disorders.

OPTIONS

The Psychology Department has 2 options for psychology majors.  These options are in addition to the requirements of the major.  It is possible to complete the major and both options or a combination of certificate programs and options.  The two options are:

  • The Preprofessional Option
    This option is for students seriously interested in pursuing advanced graduate studies after the bachelor's degree.  Students are able to complete the core program and one or both of the other options within four years.

  • The Internship Option
    This option is for students primarily interested in training for a Psychology-related career at the bachelor's degree level.  In includes individually designed internships and is completed in addition to the core program.
