What Sociology is to Matthew:
I think that Sociology is the study of group behavior and what people are capable of around others.
Personal reasons for majoring in Sociology:
I decided to major in Sociology for the same reason I decided to major in Psychology, people fascinate me, not only individually but in groups as well.
Skills gained from the study of Sociology:
I have learned how to explain and understand the reasoning behind certain group behaviors. This gives me a greater understanding of Society. I have also gained a greater understanding of how families affect individuals.
Matt’s Favorite Part about studying Sociology:
Class discussions are my favorite part of Sociology courses. I enjoyed expressing my opinion and hearing the opinions of other as well.
“Collective Behavior” taught by, Amanda Vandivier was one of my favorite classes. It concentrates on group behavior and even covers issues like mob activity.
Advice for those interested in taking the major:
If an individual seeks to help others, I think t they can find personal fulfillment and many career paths in following a Sociological background. Sociology is a major that is both fun and very applicable to real life.
