Opportunity abounds for designers and technicians at Frostburg State University. F.S.U. offers students the chance to design and build on many productions creating a very 'hands on' curriculum with small class sizes. The Design and Technology Track is an undergraduate only program, so undergrads are not competing with graduate students for design assignments. This allows our students to build very impressive portfolios with which to acquire employment. Great attention is given to transitioning a student to the professional world. Portfolio and resume reviews occur every semester. Mentorship and direction is given for all seeking for jobs as well as those moving on to graduate studies. Programs such as an annual visit to S.E.T.C. (South Eastern Theatre Conference) give Design Tech students opportunities to find internships and summer employment in the professional theatre.
Design and Technology professionals are the artists and technicians responsible for the visual and aural elements of a production. They design and construct the sets, lighting, costumes, video and still projections, sound effects that a production may require. The skill sets of a design and technology professional often include:
