A show business veteran for over twenty years, Mairzy has worked as an actor, a director, a casting director, a resume consultant, studio assistant to a well known head shot photographer, and in the offices of Screen Actors Guild.
Mairzy is a member of Maryland State Arts Council where she served as a panelist from 2002 to 2006. Other professional affiliations include Actors Equity Association, Screen Actors Guild, Theatre Communications Group, Phi Kappa Theta and the Allegany Arts Council. She was asked to write the foreword to K Callan’s book How To Sell Yourself As An Actor (2003 5th Edition).
She holds a B.A. in Theatre from De Sales University and an M.F.A. in Acting from the University of Connecticut. In New York City she studied acting with Larry Ellis, Leonard Peters, Richard Edelman, Elizabeth Dillon (at HB Studios) and Seth Barish; singing with Edward Sayegh, Tom Cultice, Fred Silver, Jon Delfin and Sara Lazarus. She studied Improvisation with Steve Kaplan, Tim Bacon and Carol Schindler and voice with Dr. David A. Stern and Patsy Rodenberg.
A member of Actor's Equity and Screen Actors Guild since 1979, Mairzy has worked in Theatre, Film and Commercials. She has performed Off-Off Broadway and regionally. Credits include appearances at Manhattan Punch Line, The Looking Glass Theatre, The Producers Club, Musical Theatre Works, Merrimack Repertory Theatre, Connecticut Repertory Theatre, The Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival, Nebraska Repertory Theatre, Nutmeg Summer Theatre, Theatre Works, USA, The Depot Theatre, Act II Summer Theatre Festival, A to Z Productions, The Cumberland Theatre, The Carousel Dinner Theatre and Indiana’s Shakespeare Under The Stars. Commercials and Voice Over work include spots for Vision Corner, New England Health Associates, Heywood Hospital, Auburn Mall, Southern New England Telephone, and Pizzeria Uno.
In addition to directing two shows a year for the University Theatre, Mairzy’s professional directing credits include Five Women Wearing the Same Dress at Our Town Theatre and The Diary of Anne Frank at the Cumberland Theatre. She is also the director of the first non-professional production of Kia Corthron's award-winning play, Breath, Boom.
As a Casting Director, Mairzy worked for East Coast Casting whose projects included the TV Series Love, Sidney (starring Tony Randall) and the films The Hunger (with David Bowie, Susan Sarandon and Catherine Deneuve) and Nothing Lasts Forever with Bill Murray.
