Elluminate - Where Bright Ideas Meet. / Bb Collab

What is Elluminate?

Elluminate is an online web-conferencing tool that allows for virtual classrooms, collaboration, meetings, discussions as well as desktop and file sharing.

What about all the Blackboard Collaborate references I see in Elluminate?

Blackboard has bought out and combined both Wimba and Eluminate - the two top web-conferencing platforms.  Together, the new version (version 11) is called,  Blackboard CollaborateHowever, FSU will continue to use version 10 of Elluminate Live! until further notice.  Please take note of this when browsing through the online tutorials and when referencing a support request.

How Do I Schedule an Elluminate Session?

The term ‘session’ refers to a virtual classroom, virtual office space and/or meeting.

To request an Elluminate Session, use the Elluminate Session Request Form.

When your request has been filled, you will receive an email containing a link to your session.

How Do I Use Elluminate?

To begin using Elluminate first go to Elluminate Support site to determine that you have needed Java software installed. This is especially important for first time users.

It is recommended that you have a noise canceling, USB headset with microphone capabilities (click here for recommendations). The headset should be connected to your computer and working before you start up Elluminate.

For those interested in using Elluminate's video conference capabilities, (and do not currently have a web camera installed) we suggest a USB web camera (click here for recommendations). The web camera should be connected to your computer and working before you start up Elluminate.

For instructors, we highly recommend using the recorded training provided for Moderators. Direct your students to the recorded training sessions for Participants.

Basic Requirements and Tech Support

A web browser and a Java plug-in are required. Prior to the start of your session, visit the Blackboard Collaborate Support site (look for Elluminate Live! version 10) to run a check on the computer you will be using. Elluminate will automatically perform a system/software check to see if you are running the required software.  If needed, you will then be prompted to install the correct components.

Elluminate also provides 24/7 Technical Support for both Moderators and Participants:
