Why do you love FSU?
FSU is where I found my best friends, my sisters, my husband and, most importantly, myself. I was motivated to do well in my classes and in life in general from everyone, starting with the alumni who always came back for career day, the faculty in my department (Poli Sci), the advisers for the activities I participated in (BURG and SGA) and the administration (Dr. John Lowe, Dr. Catherine Gira). Everyone I came in contact with had an interest in seeing me succeed and a desire to nurture the person I was, not just the grades I received.

BURG Peer Education Network: I joined this organization in my first year at FSU, at a time in my life when I was exhibiting the very behavior BURG attempts to curb through education. There came a time when the student leadership within the organization became non-existent, and I stepped up to be president of the organization. I began learning the importance of leading by example and building my leadership skills – merely because I had to or no one else would have done it. Forcing myself into this position opened up so many doors on campus for me and helped to prove to myself that I could be a leader.
What is a cause dear to your heart?
Advocacy and outreach to youth in the foster care system and alumni of the foster care system. Too often these individuals are stereotyped for the past they didn’t create. Having been adopted from the foster care system myself, I enjoy sharing my personal story to shed light on what children who were victims of abuse and neglect can become with love and nurturing.

Dr. Scott Johnson in the Political Science Department. I would NEVER be where I am today without his encouragement. I was in his Con Law class and was picked to be an attorney on a faux Supreme Court case. After my presentation, he approached me about going to law school. At the time I never in a million years believed in myself enough to follow through with it. But I agreed to take his LSAT prep course to see how well I would do the LSAT. I did well enough to get into law school, so I promised him I would apply, but ONLY to the University of Baltimore. If I didn’t get in, I wasn’t pursuing law school. Next thing I knew, I got in!
