Family Description:

This is a family of herbaceous plants which have alternate or basal leaves with a sheathed petiole and generally hollow stems. The leaves are usually compound but in some cases are simple. Flower inflorescence is an umbel, which is often compound dividing itself into umbellets. Many species in the family are aromatic.
