Family Description:

This small family contains deciduous trees that have alternate, simple, and stipulate leaves. They are usually palmately lobed and veined and the winter bud is covered by the broad base of the petiole. Flowers are small, numerous, and wind pollinated. The fruit is a cluster of tufted achenes forming a ball.
