Genus Description:

This genus contains plants forming from bulbs that exude the odor of onion or galic. The leaves are erect, and cauline or basal and narrow. They are either flattened or tube-like and sheathing at the base. The flowers are borne usually in an umbel with subtending bracts.  The fruits are capsules containing black obovoid seeds.
