Genus Description:

This genus includes perennial herbs often with milky sap. The stems are usually erect and solitary with opposite or whorled leaves. The flowers appear as cymose or simple umbels. The corona is made up of five scoop-like hoods which may have horns as well and the corolla is divided deeply. The fruit is a follicle.
