Genus Description:

This genus includes shrubs with opposite and simple or pinnately compound leaves. The leaves are often dentate but may also be palmatley lobed or nearly entire. The winter twig bears naked buds or those having 1-2 pairs of scales. The flowers are on terminal cymes and are quite small and 5-merous.the cyme may have a larger set of sterile flowers outlining the rest. Fruits are single seeded drupes.
