Our Town

OUR TOWN

By Thornton Wilder

Winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1938, Our Town warmly depicts the small-town daily life of Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire, “just over the line from Massachusetts.” Through an on-stage narrator, it tells the story of the Webb and Gibbs children as they fall in love, marry, and eventually face one of life’s darkest moments. Filled with humor and humanity, and described by famous playwright Edward Albee as “the greatest American play ever written,” this classic beautifully conveys that “there is something eternal in each of us.”

RuinedRUINED

By Lynn Nottage

This 2009 Pulitzer Prize-winning drama is set in a shrewd businesswoman’s brothel in today’s war-torn Democratic Republic of Congo. As Mama Nadi both protects and profits from the prostitutes under her charge—women whose bodies have been used by government soldiers and rebel forces alike as a systematic tactic of war—all sides of a complex reality simmer and boil in moving, courageous, and brutal detail. Developed
through the author’s own interviews with women in Africa, Ruined mines the shattered dreams of a lost country’s people to find a voice filled with humanity, hope, and song.

On Wednesday, December 7, join us for a special benefit performance. All proceeds from this evening will go to City of Joy, a safe haven in the DRC for women to heal and rebuild their lives. For more information, visit www.vday.org.

PicassoPICASSO AT THE LAPIN AGILE

By Steve Martin

Imagine overhearing Pablo Picasso and Albert Einstein debate the art of physics and the physics of art. That’s exactly what happens at the Lapin Agile (Nimble Rabbit) when in Paris, France, 1904, these two young geniuses engage in a playful conversation on the eve of their greatest accomplishments — Picasso’s shift from his blue to cubist period and Einstein’s publishing of his special theory of relativity.

Written by comedian Steve Martin, Picasso at the Lapin Agile is a witty romp that also gives audiences much to chew on about the significance of art and science in the 20th century, as well as the thrill of being on the verge of something.
