ROUNDABOUT CHILDREN'S THEATRE

This fall the Roundabout Children’s Theatre returns with pirate tenacity.

How I Became a PirateHOW I BECAME A PIRATE

Book, Music, and Lyrics by Janet Yates Vogt and Mark Friedman
Based on the Book How I Became a Pirate
Written by Melinda Long with Illustrations by David Shanno

Did you know that pirates have green teeth and no one tells them when to brush or go to bed? Young Jeremy Jacobs learns this, and more, when Pirate Braid Beard and his scurvy crew recruit him to help find the perfect digging spot for their treasure. Aboard ship, Jeremy learns to speak Pirate (“Argh!”) and to sing sea chanteys. He also discovers that pirates don’t read books before bed, or even give hugs! When a storm arises and the skills of the crew are called upon to steer the ship to safety, Jeremy begins to wonder if the pirate life is really for him. Upon reaching land, he draws a map leading the pirates to a special place to bury their treasure—which just so happens to be the place he treasures the most.

With terrific songs like “Green Teeth,” “I’m Really Just a Sensitive Guy,” “You’ve Got to Talk Like a Pirate,” and “Pirates Dot Aaargh!“ this musical version of the book How I Became a Pirate will have you rolling in the aisles and wishing for Braid Beard and his gang to pay your family a visit.
