"Cindy"
May 16, 1968 - May 22, 2000
Cindy received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Frostburg State University in 1990, with a double major in English and French and a minor in Spanish. She completed her Master of Education degree in 1991. While a student at Frostburg, she was a member of the French Club.
Cindy lived in Barton, Midland, Clinton, and Glen Burnie, all in Maryland. She was a 1986 graduate of Valley High School in Lonaconing, MD, where she graduated 8th in her class and was a member of the French Club and the Band. Cindy was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lonaconing, Maryland. She served as a lector and choir member from the age of 12. Cindy was a substitute teacher with the Anne Arundel County Board of Education. She wanted to teach because she loved children. She was also employed by several temporary agencies in Anne Arundel County. She was an accomplished pianist, poet, and artist. Cindy enjoyed traveling, using her computer, tracking family genealogy, sewing, reading, swimming, especially at Dan's Mountain State Park and in the ocean, and shopping for gifts for others. She corresponded frequently with many friends, relatives, and public school and university instructors. Those close to her knew her to be a very loving, strong, and independent person.
Beginning with her teenage years, Cindy dealt stoically with numerous physical ailments including gout, vein disease, Diabetes Mellitus, and a rare disease known as "the other diabetes" or Diabetes Insipidus, a disorder of the pituitary gland whereby the hormone pressin is not produced and the individual must rely on a synthetic hormone replacement. Cindy was a member of the Diabetes Insipidus Foundation which promotes support for members and the search for a cure.
Cindy was devoted to her family and many friends - her parents, Florence and Danny Young, sister Shawn, brother Mark, sister-in-law Kathy, nephews Adam and Andrew Young, grandparents Bernadette and James Brown, Pearl and Oliver Young, and numerous aunts and uncles, especially her aunt Peggy Miller. Special friends include Diane (Taugher) Sensabaugh, Nancy (Taugher) Huff, Becky (Preston) Fazenbaker, Sheila Boss, and her swimming buddy Phyllis Nicol.
These and many others will forever hold her in precious memory.
