Dear Future Financial Planning Professional:

This is an exciting time to begin or expand your career as a professional in the personal financial planning field. Unprecedented wealth and bright economic prospects for the future have increased dramatically the demand for sound advice on tax and estate planning, retirement, and investments of all types. As a professional financial planner you would be positioned to take full benefit in this rapidly expanding field.

The Frostburg State University's Financial Planning Certificate Program (FPCP) is designed to help meet today's needs for trained professionals who can develop, assess, and evaluate a client's financial plan for the future. The program's courses are taught by FSU faculty and practitioners who are committed to providing the most up-to-date, accurate, and comprehensive information in a wide range of financial planning areas. The Frostburg FPCP is registered with Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. ("CFP Board") and uses CFP Board's list of 89 financial planning topics as a framework for all courses.

While the FPCP is not a college-credit program and there are no specific course or degree requirements for admission, we recommend at least two years of college course work since the courses are rigorous and taught at the upper-division level. Completion of this six-course program satisfies the education requirements of CFP Board to sit for the CFP® Certification Examination.Those who are already working in the field may not need to take all six courses. Students should contact CFP Board regarding specific certification requirements.

Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. owns the marks CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, and CFP (with flame logo)®, which it awards to individuals who successfully complete initial and ongoing certification requirements.

Frostburg State University does not certify individuals to use the CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, and CFP (with flame logo)® certification marks. CFP certification is granted only by Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards to those persons who, in addiiton to completing an educational requirement such as this CFP Board-Registered Program, have met its ethics, experience, and examination requirements.
