Habitat description: wet, coastal temperate rainforest of southeastern Alaska and north-coastal British Columbia; has been transplanted elsewhere

Behavior: Usually eat green vegetation of shrubs and herbaceous plants in the summer and woody browse in the winter; when diet is restricted to the browse, they rapidly lose fat reserves; very rarely resort to eating grass

Current news/event & conservation status: Overall population is considered to be low, however populations are known to drop after severe winters
