Minor: Leadership Studies and Mathematics
Hometown: Keyser, West Virginia
High School: Keyser High School, Class of 2010
I chose Frostburg State University because I wanted to follow a different path than what most people from my high school choose to take. In general, the people from my home community go to the local community college before transferring to one of the larger institutions in West Virginia. FSU offered me the opportunity to go to school outside of West Virginia without paying large out of state tuition fees since I fall in the “contiguous county” category. I also had a teacher in high school, who I really respected, that was an FSU graduate, and after hearing her talk about all FSU has to offer, I knew it was a perfect fit for me. I have to admit I was a little nervous about going to school at FSU because I knew absolutely no one who went to school here or who was planning to attend in the future. However, after my first week of classes, I had already developed close relationships with other students and faculty, and I was glad I made the choice I did. FSU was definitely the right fit for me.
How I stay involved:
I love being involved with student activities on campus. The major organization I am in is The Bottom Line, FSU’s student-operated newspaper. I joined The Bottom Line my first year, and I have since become the Editor-in-Chief. Being a part of the organization has really allowed me to work closely not only with other students but also with FSU faculty and the local community. In addition to the newspaper, I also am involved in Bobcat Ambassadors, Student Alumni Ambassadors, and Student Members of the American Chemical Society (SMACS). I have also been offered excellent job opportunities on campus such as serving as a student instructor for the DVMT 100 course and tutoring for the FSU tutoring center.
Life after the Burg:
I plan to graduate from FSU in the spring of 2014 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Chemistry. After graduating, I plan to attend graduate school in order to obtain my PhD with an ultimate career goal of teaching and performing research at a university.
