FSU Named One of Affordable Colleges Foundation’s Top Online MBA Programs for 2014-2015

Frostburg State University has been listed as number 25 in Affordable Colleges Foundation’s ranking of 68 of the nation’s Best Online MBA Programs for 2014-2015, which were analyzed on several cost-, quality- and student support-related metrics, such as student-faculty ratio, percentage of faculty with doctorates, number of online MBA options, number of MBAs conferred and full tuition of the online MBA program. More than 500 colleges were analyzed.

Frostburg State University Achieves Federal Drug-Free Communities Grant

Frostburg Community Coalition Maryland Grant Increased

Frostburg State University’s and the Frostburg Community Coalition’s efforts to combat high-risk and underage drinking and engage the local community in these efforts have netted a highly competitive Drug-Free Communities Grant, a five-year federal award that will provide $625,000 to further this work. Matching funds from the University will translate into a total of $1.25 million toward addressing community-level concerns regarding youth substance abuse.

FSU Is First Stop on Alzheimer’s Foundation’s Raise Your Voice For Care College Tour

The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America Raise Your Voice For Care College Tour will kick off its national campaign at Frostburg State University on Wednesday, Nov. 5, in the Lane University Center. The day-long event will include a Healthzone Health Fair with free memory and blood pressure screenings, educational sessions, giveaways, brain games and music.

Frostburg State University Named Military Friendly for Fourth Straight Year

Victory Media, which serves military personnel transitioning into civilian life, has named Frostburg State University to its coveted Military Friendly Schools list for the fourth year in a row. The Military Friendly Schools list honors the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members, veterans and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus.

Frostburg State University Seeks Comment on Its College of Education

The College of Education at Frostburg State University is scheduled for an accreditation review visit by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) in April 2015. Federal regulations require that accrediting agencies allow for public comment on the qualifications of institutions or programs under consideration for initial or continuing accreditation.

FSU Students & Savage River Watershed to Launch Marcellus Shale Listening Project

Frostburg State University students are partnering with the Savage River Watershed Association to participate in “Marcellus Shale in Mountain Maryland: A Listening Project” to document local hopes and concerns regarding proposed unconventional natural gas extraction in Western Maryland. While there has been much debate about drilling in the area, little has been done to assess public opinion to assist state and local government officials and county planners.

FSU President Jonathan Gibralter Presents at National Climate Leadership Summit

Frostburg State University President Jonathan Gibralter was a part of the 2014 Presidential Summit on Climate Leadership, both as an attendee and a presenter. Hosted by Second Nature, the summit brought together more than 250 college and university leaders from across the U.S. to focus on ways to strengthen campus climate action and sustainability initiatives, as well as higher education’s leadership role in developing strategic responses to climate and sustainability challenges in community, regional and national contexts.

FSU Planetarium Shows Resume in University’s New CCIT Building

Frostburg State University’s planetarium shows have resumed in the University’s new Center for Communications and Information Technology. The planetarium programs are held on the ground floor, in the Multimedia Learning Center, each Sunday through Dec. 21 at 4 and 7 p.m. with programs changing each month. Each program runs about 45 minutes and is free and open to the public.

Frostburg State University’s online Master of Education, Special Education concentration, has been ranked a “Best Buy” by GetEducated.com, the consumer guide to online colleges, in its independent review of online master’s in the education and special education subject areas. FSU’s program ranked 21st on the special education rankings among all competing options nationwide.
