Learning Is More Than a Game for Frostburg State University Students, Faculty

Intellect, verbal sparring, clandestine missions and persuasive acting were all part of the game this weekend in a special workshop featuring Frostburg State University history and philosophy students.

An interdisciplinary Reacting to the Past workshop held Feb. 28 to March 1 at FSU featured students and faculty playing the roles of labor and women’s rights luminaries like W.E.B. Du Bois and Margaret Sanger in a creative debate to influence their peers playing as artists and bohemians for “Greenwich Village 1913: Suffrage, Labor and the New Woman.”

FSU Faculty Member Dr. Yan Bao Honored With USM Award for Teaching

Dr. Yan Bao, an associate professor in the Frostburg State University Department of Accounting, has been awarded the Regents’ Faculty Award for Teaching, the highest honor that the University System of Maryland Board of Regents bestows to recognize exemplary faculty achievement. She will be honored at the April 10 meeting of the board.

Frostburg State University’s Chamber Choir to Perform Throughout Italy

This March, the Frostburg State University Chamber Choir will have the unique opportunity of traveling to Italy, where for eight days they will perform at a variety of venues in Florence, Rome, Perugia and Assisi. They will perform compositions by American and European composers as well as an unpublished work, “Madrigale Mille,” by a friend of the Chamber Choir, contemporary Italian composer Manolo da Rold.

Office for Civil Rights to Conduct Focus Groups

Campus sexual violence is an important issue that Frostburg State University takes very seriously. The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) is currently reviewing the University's policies and practices related to Title IX of the Education Amendment Acts of 1972, which is the federal law that prohibits sexual harassment and sexual violence.

Representatives from OCR will be on campus on Tuesday, April 8, and Wednesday, April 9 to conduct focus group sessions in conversation with the campus community on issues related to sexual harassment and sexual violence. OCR will also be available to speak privately with anyone regarding these issues, or to anyone who is a survivor of sexual violence or sexual harassment who may wish to speak with OCR.
