FSU’s Brosi, McCampbell Receive Awards at Ethnobotany/Economic Botany Conference

Dr. Sunshine Brosi, an assistant professor in the Department of Biology at Frostburg State University, won the Charles B. Heiser, Jr., Mentor Award at the joint Society of Ethnobotany 37th annual and Society for Economic Botany 55th annual international conference held in Cherokee, N.C., in May. In addition, Michael McCampbell, who earned his master’s degree in applied ecology and conservation biology from FSU in May, won the Edmund H. Fulling Award for his presentation, “Seedling Establishment of American Chestnut, ‘Castanea dentata,’ in Pennsylvania.”

Frostburg State University Approved to Offer Online Master of Science in Nursing

Frostburg State University will begin offering an online Master of Science in Nursing degree starting with the fall 2014 semester, having now received all of the necessary approvals.

The M.S.N. program, in which coursework is delivered completely online, will offer two tracks, Nursing Administration and Nursing Education. Prospective students would be registered nurses who have earned a bachelor’s degree.

Duncan Given FSU President’s Distinguished Faculty Award

Dr. Sydney Duncan, chair of the Department of English at Frostburg State University and an associate professor in the department, has been selected as the third recipient of the President’s Distinguished Faculty Award from FSU President Dr. Jonathan Gibralter, an award he established to recognize and encourage those faculty members who advance the University’s mission and goals and its strategic planning initiatives.

FSU Children’s Literature Centre to Offer Summer Author Institute – Three Authors, Three Credits, One Week

The Children’s Literature Centre at Frostburg State University will offer its Summer Author Institute at two locations in July. The class, registered as EDUC 490/590 Special Topics in Education, will be taught at FSU from July 7 through 11 and at the University System of Maryland at Hagerstown from July 14 through 18.

Frostburg State University to Present W. Dennis Thomas with Honorary Doctorate

Frostburg State University will present W. Dennis Thomas of Westminster, Md., a member of Frostburg State College’s Class of 1965, with an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree at its 144th commencement ceremony on Thursday, May 22. Thomas achieved two distinguished careers, one in public service, culminating in service in the White House, and the second in private industry.
