FSU to Receive $1.6 Million TRiO Grant Over 5 Years to Support Qualified Students

A Frostburg State University program that helps 275 eligible students has received a competitive federal grant of $332,930 per year, totaling more than $1.6 million over the next five years. FSU’s TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) Program, the only four-year SSS program in Western Maryland, has been continually funded since 1973.

NIAAA honors Jonathan Gibralter with Senator Harold Hughes Award

Jonathan Gibralter, Ph.D., president of Frostburg State University (FSU), received the Senator Harold Hughes Memorial Award today from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), part of the National Institutes of Health.  NIAAA Director George Koob, Ph.D., announced his selection during the 139th meeting of the National Advisory Council on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.

Frostburg State Student’s Work With D.C. Trees Sends Her to South Africa

Which tree-lined streets in our nation’s capital could be different in future generations because of research completed by Frostburg State University students? Ethnobotany graduate student Laura Smith may know. She has spent the last two years combing through and visualizing data of 157,000 trees in Washington, D.C., to evaluate pest and disease impact on the urban forest.

FSU President Emerita Gira Honored in Naming of New Center for Communications and Information Technology

Frostburg State University’s newest academic building is now known as the Catherine R. Gira Center for Communications and Information Technology, following an unveiling ceremony today. The naming honors Gira’s 15 years of service to FSU and her distinguished career in higher education.

Held on a sunny spring morning in more than 100 well-wishers, the black and red drape covering the brick sign that now bears her name was drawn up and away as Gira stood by.

Tom Bowling Appointed Interim President of Frostburg State University

University System of Maryland (USM) Chancellor William E. Kirwan has appointed Tom Bowling as interim president of Frostburg State University (FSU). The appointment is effective July 1, 2015. Bowling is currently FSU’s vice president for student affairs.

Frostburg State University Expands Regional Tuition Rate Zone to 120-Mile Radius

FROSTBURG, Md. – Residents of Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and Ohio living within 120 miles of Frostburg State University may be eligible for a newly expanded Regional Tuition Rate that will save them about $4,600 per year over out-of-state tuition. This same regional rate previously only applied in counties contiguous to Western Maryland.
