ACM, FSU Offer College Financial Aid Info in High Schools
12/15/2011

CUMBERLAND, Md. – Financial aid staff officials from Allegany College of Maryland and Frostburg State University will share their expertise with high school students and parents in evening information sessions at Allegany County’s four public high schools.

These weekly question-and-answer events, which start Jan. 4, are in conjunction with state and national campaigns to raise awareness of college affordability and to increase participation in higher education by young people.

ACM and FSU student financial aid staff visit a different county high school from 6 to 7:30 p.m. each Wednesday in January.

The dates are: Fort Hill High School, Jan. 4; Allegany High School, Jan. 11; Mountain Ridge High School, Jan. 18; and the Center for Career and Technical Education, Jan. 25.

In addition to providing financial aid information at the four sessions, ACM and FSU personnel will offer assistance in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

The FAFSA, which is the first step toward receiving financial aid, is required by most colleges, universities and private career schools to qualify for scholarships, grants and loans. March 1 is the Maryland deadline to file FAFSA.

Personnel from the college and university also will be present to assist during the county school system’s Parent-Teacher Conference Day. Financial aid staff will be on hand in each of the four high schools from 1 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1.

More information about these financial aid information events is available by calling the financial aid offices at ACM or FSU. Their numbers are 301-784-5213 and 301-687-4301, respectively. The e-mail address for the FSU office is fsufinaid@frostburg.edu.
