ACM, FSU Offer College Financial Aid Info in High Schools
12/19/2013

Financial aid staff officials from Allegany College of Maryland and Frostburg State University will share their expertise in evening information sessions in five Allegany County high schools during January.

These question-and-answer events, which start Jan. 8, are in conjunction with state and national efforts to raise awareness of college affordability and increase participation in higher education by young people.

ACM and FSU student financial aid staff members will visit the following county high school from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on these weeknights throughout the month: Mountain Ridge High School, Jan. 8, Bishop Walsh High School, Jan. 14; Fort Hill High School, Jan. 15; Allegany High School, Jan. 22; and the Center for Career and Technical Education, Jan. 29.

In addition to providing financial aid information at the five sessions, ACM and FSU personnel will offer assistance in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. FAFSA, which is the first step toward receiving financial aid, is required by most colleges, universities and private career schools to qualify for scholarships, grants and loans.

March 1 is the priority filing deadline for Maryland residents to file a completed FAFSA for state aid. Students who apply after this deadline may not receive grants for which they are eligible.

High school seniors can follow up with more information on the subject at ACM’s Financial Aid Days, scheduled Feb. 17 and 18. College personnel will be on hand from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day to help students submit the 2014-15 FAFSA.

More information about these financial aid information events is available by contacting the Financial Aid Office at ACM at 301-784-5213 or the one at FSU at 301-687-4301 or fsufinaid@frostburg.edu.

FSU is committed to making all of its programs, services and activities accessible to persons with disabilities. To request accommodations through the ADA Compliance Office, call 301-687-4102 or use a Voice Relay Operator at 1-800-735-2258.
