*** PRESS RELEASE ***
On Sunday morning, April 18, 2010, at approximately 4:00 AM, the Frostburg Police were contacted about a shooting that had just occurred on East College Avenue in Frostburg, across from Frostburg State University. Officers from the Frostburg Police and the Frostburg State University Police responded to the scene and found two victims suffering from gun shot wounds.
Both victims were transported to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center where one victim was pronounced dead. The other victim was taken into surgery, but is expected to survive.
Members of the Frostburg Police and the FSU Police were able to secure the residence where the incident occurred and detain all the subjects inside the residence. The Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) was contacted and Investigators responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.
Investigators learned that there had been a confrontation at an off campus party earlier that evening where it is alleged that a subject assaulted a female attending the party. That confrontation quickly ended when it was broken up by other subjects attending the party.
Later, several subjects went to the residence of the person alleged to have assaulted the female, located on East College Avenue. There was another confrontation, and then the suspect produced a 12 gauge shotgun. The suspect fired two rounds, striking both of the victims in the abdominal area. The suspect then fled back into his residence and remained there until law enforcement arrived and he was detained.
Investigators obtained and executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence. They recovered the 12 gauge shotgun believed to have been used during the incident, as well as numerous rounds of shotgun shells and other evidence.
The deceased has been identified as 20 year old Brandon Michael Carroll, of Waldorf, MD. The other victim has been identified as 21 year old Ellis Eugene Hartridge, Jr., of Washington, D.C. Both are Frostburg State University students.
The suspect has been identified as 21 year old Tyrone Brent Hall, of Glen Burnie. Hall is also a student at Frostburg State University.
Hall is being charged with 1st Degree Murder, Attempted 1st Degree Murder, and two (2) counts of 1st Degree Assault.
Hall was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an initial appearance and was ordered held without bond. He is currently incarcerated at the Allegany County Detention Center pending his next court appearance.
The investigation is continuing.
