The Frostburg State baseball team beat NCAA Division II Alderson-Broaddus 11-5 Saturday afternoon.
The Bobcats improved to 3-2 overall on the season.
FSU opened an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning and later added two more runs in the top of the fourth to take a 4-0 lead. The Bobcats blew the game wide open in the seventh, scoring six runs to increase their advantage to 10-0.
AB got on the board in the home half of the seventh inning by scoring two runs. After Frostburg State added one run in the eighth, Alderson-Broaddus closed the gap to 11-5 with three runs.
At the plate, FSU was led by sophomore Art Barone (Chestnut Ridge, N.Y./Spring Valley) who went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and one run while junior Mike Gitzen (Sterling, Va./Potomac Falls) had two hits, two RBIs and two runs.
On the mound, Bobcat senior Billye Hollister (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) pitched a six-inning shutout, allowing just one hit while striking out seven.
Frostburg State returns to action tomorrow when they face #21 Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va.
