GREENSBORO, N.C. —
The Frostburg State baseball team lost to Greensboro, 16-5, on Sunday afternoon at War Memorial Stadium.
GC (2-1) got on the board early with two runs in the first inning and one in second. The Pride scored their first run on a Bobcat error and thier second on a Jess Maloney RB I double. They would tack on a third run when Anthony Corona scored on a ground out.
Greensboro would take a 7-0 lead in the fourth after a Bobcat error and RBIs by Jeff Gregory, Taylor Kennedy and Chad Clark.
The score would remain the same until the seventh inning when GC scored nine runs to extend its lead to 16-0. The inning was highlighted by a Pat Burgess four-run homerun.
The Bobcats (1-2) got on the board in the top of the ninth when sophomore Allan Peake (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) singled home junior Todd Holmes (Bloomfield, Pa./West Perry). FSU added two more runs before freshman Pat Hendricks (New Milford, Conn./New Milford) singled to center, scoring senior Kyle Mahan (Woodbridge, Va./Potomac) and freshman Jordan Crystal (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst (Monmouth)) to cut the GC lead to 16-5.
Frostburg State freshman Andy Chrobak (New Castle, Pa./Laurel) took the loss after lasting just one inning and allowing two runs on two hits. Pride starter Kit Mock earned the win after holding FSU scoreless in seven innings of work.
FSU returns to action next Saturday when it travels to Christopher Newport for a doubleheader beginnning at noon.
