Baseball Earns Fifth Seed In NCAA Division III Tournament

FROSTBURG, Md. - The Frostburg State baseball team earned a No. 5 seed and will travel to Boyertown, Pa. to take on No. 4 seed Gwynedd-Mercy, in the opening round of the 2007 NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament, Wednesday at 9:30 am. The regional games are hosted by Alvernia College.

FSU enters the tournament with a 31-13 overall record, after capturing the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championship this past weekend. The Bobcats downed Pitt-Greensburg in the first round, cruised past Medaille in the second round and the rolled over La Roche to capture their second consecutive AMCC Title.

Gwynedd-Mercy enters the tournament with a 30-10 overall record, winning 19 of their last 21 games and claiming their third Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Title. The Griffins are currently ranked 23rd in the ABCA Poll and 4th in the Mid-Atlantic Region.

Last season, FSU ended GMC’s run in the NCAA’s, defeating them 3-2 in the 9th inning. The Bobcats then went on to lose to No. 2 seed Montclair State, 7-2 to finish their own season.
