Baseball Earns No. 7 Seed in NCAA Tournament at Boyertown, Pa.
FROSTBURG, Md. —
Frostburg State earned a No. 7 seed and will travel to Boyertown, Pa. to take on No. 2 seed Montclair State in the opening round of the 2006 NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament Wednesday at 1:00 pm. The regional games are hosted by Alvernia College.
FSU enters the tournament with a 27-11 overall record after capturing the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championship this past weekend. The Bobcats downed Penn State Behrend 8-7 in the opening round, slipped past La Roche 8-7 in the winner’s bracket championship and then rallied past La Roche 6-5 in the championship contest with the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning. Frostburg State is currently ranked eighth in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic region poll.
MSU enters the tournament 27-16-2 overall after finishing runner-up in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Montclair State is no stranger to the NCAA Tournament having been crowned as national champions three times with the most recent coming in 2000. The Red Hawks have been selected to the tournament a total of 24 times and are currently ranked second in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic region poll.
