— The Frostburg State baseball team defeated Dickinson 13-5 Sunday afternoon at Bobcat Field to earn its 20th victory of the season.
In the first, junior Chris Jones (Baltimore, Md./Towson) led off the inning for the Bobcats (20-9) with a triple and later scored on an RBI single by junior Ryan Stevens (Dryden, N.Y./Dryden).
Sophomore Ryan Webb (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) added an RBI single and senior Lance Williams (Herndon, Va./W.T. Woodson) scored on a bases-loaded walk to cap the three-run inning.
FSU struck again in the third when freshman Allen Peake (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) knocked a two-run double to right field and later scored on a wild pitch to increase the FSU lead to 6-0.
Dickinson got on the board when Aren Johnson doubled to center field scoring Tre Dwinell. The next batter, Andrew Burger, cut the Bobcat deficit to 6-2 with an RBI single.
Frostburg State scored one run in the fourth when Jones crossed home plate on a bases-loaded walk. Dickinson answered in the fifth when Chris McInerney scored on a wild pitch.
In the bottom of the fifth, sophomore Todd Holmes (New Bloomfield, Pa./West Perry) led off the inning with his fourth home run of the season and Speights hit a two-out RBI double to give the Bobcats a 9-3 advantage.
In the sixth, Ryan Anderson scored on an FSU error and Ryan Miklusak had an RBI ground out as the Red Devils narrowed the score to 9-5.
Webb led off the bottom of the frame with a solo home run, his third in two days and fourth on the season. The Bobcats added three runs in the seventh on a Dickinson error and RBIs from Peake and Holmes to end the scoring.
Junior reliever Chris Phillips (New Holland, Ill./Lincoln Community) pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up two runs on three hits while striking out four to earn the win.
Bobcat starter Sean Rae (Westminster, Md./Calvert Hall), who didn’t factor in the decision, threw four innings scattering five hits and allowing just two runs while fanning two.
Dickinson starter Jame King lasted four innings allowing seven runs on eight hits earning the loss.
The Bobcats return to action Tuesday when they travel to Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference foe Penn State Altoona for a doubleheader at 1:00 pm.
