BOYERTOWN, Pa. —
The Frostburg State baseball team suffered a disappointing 7-0 season-ending loss to Kean in the 2007 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Baseball Regional, Thursday morning.
Fifth seeded FSU (31-15) was eliminated from the tournament after suffering its second-straight loss in as many days. Meanwhile, top seeded KU (36-8) advances to face fourth seeded Gwynedd Mercy tonight at 8:00 pm.
The Bobcats were held to just five hits while the Cougars recorded 10. Kean scored all the runs it needed in the first inning on a sacrifice fly Joseph D’Andrea and solo homerun from Derek Gianakas.
KU would go on to add two more runs in the third and fourth innings and one in the fifth.
Junior Bryan Burke (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst (LIU)) led FSU with two hits (2-for-4) while seniors Mike Gitzen (Sterling, Va./Potomac Falls), Todd Holmes (New Bloomfield, Pa./West Perry) and Art Barone (Chestnut Ridge, N.Y./Spring Valley) each had one.
Sophomore Scott Eastment (Warrenton, Va./Paul VI (Georgetown)) fell to 8-2 on the year after lasting 4.0 innings and allowing all seven runs. Daniel Zeffiro improved to 8-1 after pitching his first complete game of the season.
