GIBSONIA, Pa. —
The Frostburg State baseball team has been selected to repeat as Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference champions in the preseason poll as voted on by the league’s coaches.
Pitt-Bradford is selected to finish second while Penn State Behrend was tabbed for third.
For the second year in a row, Penn State Altoona shortstop Tony Petulla is the coaches' selection as the Preseason Player of the Year. He earned AMCC Co-Player of the Year honors in each of the last two seasons and was an ABCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region Third Team selection last spring.
FSU junior starter John Micklus (La Plata, Md./McDonough) was named the Preseason Pitcher of the Year. In 2006, Micklus posted a 7-3 record with three saves and a 2.32 ERA. In 66 innings of work, he struckout 74 batters and limited opponents to a .228 batting average while garnering all-conference honorable mention honors.
Bobcat junior Allen Peake (Fredericksburg, VA/Stafford) has been listed a player to watch this spring. The Second Team All-AMCC selection last spring, posted a .988 fielding percentage from his first base position and he led FSU with seven homeruns and 29 RBIs.
